Film Lesson: Schindler's List

The film of Schindlers list shows the holocaust as a very violent period of time. It was a period of time that the population of the Jews was decreased by millions. The scene that was most powerful was the scene of the camp in Auschwitiz because this scene showed what the people would do inside the camp, what they were fed, and how would they be treated. People at the camps weren't fed very well because the Nazi's would run out of food and they didn't have enough to feed them. Most of them died of starvation. People got very skinny, all that was left was their bones. The dead were buried inside the camps. The images that will stay with me are when the Germans began to lose the war and they had to close down the camps, so the Jews had to unburied the bodies and cremate them. Also when the Germans began to burned the bodies in a pile. The Nazi's used machines that would move the dead bodies to the place where the bodies would be burn. The holocaust was the sadest time in history.

Night and Fog

This documentary was very sad. It showed how the Jewish people were treated at the concentration camps. It was terrible to what the Jewish people suffer because of the Nazi's. I felt very bad. The scenes of this docementary were nearly the same to the movie Schindler's list but it didn't show what the Nazi's did to them. The documentary only showed the remains of the camps and how the camps were after the war. Schindlers list shows the Holocaust more effectively because it shows how the Jewish were treated and what would the Nazi's do to them during the camps. Night and Fog doesn't show activity on the concentration camps. People were beated or kill because they if didn't obey. It shows what they did to the elderly and the children, they killed them right at the moment because they were unable to work. This documentary shows where the Jewish people were cremated and in what kind of shelters they would be placed.

Treaty of Versailles

The Treaty of Versailles is the treaty that ended world war 1, but was the cause of world war 2. This treaty made Germany pay for every damage and give up land the it had. After Germany sign the treaty, Germany went into a depression in their economy. Germany was blamed for all damages that were made at the end of the war. The blame that Germany took was not fair because part of the damages that were made were also from Russia and Great Britain. They did not take part of the blame. People began to look at them as the bad people even if they were innocent. They lost land and businesses, the contry was broke so they had to borrow money from the United States in order to pay France and England's damages. Soon America entered a great depression and stoped lending money to Germany and they could not pay the damages. The German people felt angry at the Treaty of Versailles because of it's terms. Hitler came in and tried to overthrow the government but didn't suceed. He went to jail and wrote Mein Kampf meaning My Struggle were he wrote that there was one group of people to blame and they were Jews. Also that if the Aryans controlled the country they would get in shape. This is when world war 2 began to form. Some historians today say that the Treaty of Versailles led the rise of Hitler because the treaty took everything from them.

Mustafa Kemal (Ataturk) and the Modernization of Turkey

Mustafa keamal was born in May 19 1881 and died in November 10 1938. He served in the military of Turkey. He was a commander. He was a charismatic leader of the nation of Turkey in 1919 when the country struggle for its liberation. He ended the Ottoman dynasty. The ottoman liberation lasted for mare than six ceturies. After he ended the Ottoman dynasty he establish a new government. He was president for 15 years. During his presidency he establish Secularism. Secularism is the removal of religion from culture and education. Mustafa wanted to modernize Turkey by removing all ancients beliefs. He wanted to improved the country's economy and technology. The people wanted their independence by creating nationalism also to modernize the their institutions. Out of all of this he wanted everything very modernize.

Film Lesson- "Gandhi"

Mahatma Gandhi was a very famous pacifist leader. He was born in 1869 and died in 1948. He did not use violence to fight agaist the British. He wanted freedom from the bristish. To gain his freedom from the Bristish he used passive resitance. By using non-violence he made the british look bad because they were beating poor innocent people. He went to England to study to become a lawyer. He convinced Indian people to go on strikes and to boycott the clothing that the British. Gandhi made his own clothes and his followers did too. The effect of the boycott in India effected England alot, their economy droped. The protests and the boycott made Gandhi get into jail four times. Gandhi was in jail in 1922, 1930, 1933 and 1942. In the time that Gandhi was in jail, he was on hunger strikes. Gandhi won the fight against the British in 1947. At the end another country(Pakistan). He didn't want India to be sperated in two countries because of their religions. He belived that Hindu's and Muslims had equal power but the Muslims believe that they were better than the others. The Indian independence was caused by Mahatama Gandhi and if it wasn't for him India wouldn'tbe free. During the time that India was free Great Britain must have been in economic crisis because most of their economy came from India.

Russian Revolution

The Russian Revolution was not a war that lasted for a continiuosly period of time. It was made of two seperate revolutions, one of them was on February and the other one was in October. This was in the year of 1917. The February revolution tooks place around St. Petersburg. The members of Duma assumed that they would take control of the country and form a new government called Russian Provisional Government. The army didn't felt that they had any means to suppress the revolution so the Russian Provisional Government was under control. Russian socialists and their relationship to the war played a key role in the stage for revolution in Russia. During the October Revolution the Provisional Government was overthrown by the Bolsheviks.Lenin was the leader of the radical Bolsheviks. He was an outlaw. He had a debate with the more moderate wing of the Russian Social Democrats called Mensheviks. He was in favor of the war but the other socialist weren't because he thought it would weaken capitalism and prepare the ground for revolution. He promised peace, land, and bread but he didn't keep his promise. Instead of giving land he took it away, because he didn't kept his promise there was death by starvation in the Soviet Union. The estimates are between 3 and 10 million deaths in 1922.

World war 1 was the deadliest war in history. Many men lost their lifes in the war. In this war there were many new weapons such as machine guns, poison gas, artillery, planes, and tanks. World war 1 began in 1914 and ended in 1918. This war was between Germany, Great Britain, Austria hungary, France, and Russia. The Chancellor of Germany Bismark started an alliance system that would maintain Germany's hegemony on the European continent. France decided to challenge the hegemony of Germany because France had been defeated by Germany in 1871 and had been forced to cede two provinces (Alsace-Lorraine) to Germany. The Chancellor try to stop France uniting with Itlay, Russia, Austria, and Britain. There were natioalistic beliefs in this war. The feelings of nationalism created hatred in pre-war. France fought Germany and Russia against Austria. The war was to proof national superiority. Another cause of the war that included nationalism was the assassination of Archduke Francis Ferdinand on June 28, 1914. At the beginning it appeared to be a balkan crisis but then it resulted a war between Austria and Serbia. Germany did nothing but russia helped Serbia then germany entered. After France enter with Belgium and lastly Great Britain enter. Militarism was another problem. The countries build up large armies. The military officers planned to dominate other countries. The miltaries planned the mobilization, they were just waiting for authorization to let them go on. As the result of these causes World War 1 began.

The Opium Wars

The Opium War was a war between China and Britain during the years of 1839 and 1842. This war took place in China. The British wanted to trade opium with China for tea which became a popular drink. People began to use opium for heroin which was a very dangerous drug, they also use it for a pain killer called morphine. The people of China began to get addicted to it and eventually got sick. The government of China didn't want the British to import Opium. The British refuse and still want to continue trading with them. As a result of the British
gorvernment refusing the import opium war began. Eventually the British won the war because of its advanced technology of weapons. The British and the Chinese sign a peace treaty that allow them to use five ports.

There were many problems that Europeans faced while exploring Africa. One of the major problems was making it through the desert, many people died while traveling in the desert because they barely had food or water. They didn't know where they were going because everything look the same. The explorershad problems finding the nile river. On their search of the nile river they found another river thinking that they had already found the nile river. People began to drink the water from the river and because they drank from it they got malaria and died with in days. They named this lake after their queen back in England which was Queen Victoria. When the bristish people went into Africa they had weapons such as a Rifle and a six round pistol. when the Africans saw these new weapons, they were afraid because they never heard such a loud noise. The Europeans had an advantage in taking over Africa because all the Africans were spears and Europeans had guns that could shoot from a long distance. Eventually the Europeans could of conquered all of Africa.

Karl Marx and Communism

Karl marx was born in 1818 in Trier, Prussia which is now Germany. He studied philosophy in Berlin and he earned his doctorate at the age of 23. He died on London in 18883. During his life he only relied in Friedrich Engel. Friedrich was the only person he worked with . They both requested a Communist League, when they requested the Communist League they presented the famous work called the Communist Manifesto that was published in 1848. karl wanted communism for two types of people, the capitalist who were the owners of everything and the proletatriat. His idea of Communism is for people to have the same rights, earned the same amount of money, and for people of all class to share everything they have. Communism is somnthing that makes the government own all business, homes,and land nobody is to own anything. Communism lead to a revolution and qat the end there were no classes of people in the society. All he wanted is peace and equal rights for all class of people. Karl Marx view the capitalist people as the bad guys because they were pushing and bossing the proletatrait which is the working class. He view the proletatrait as the good guys because they were the ones who did all the work and were the people who work alot and got paid very little. At the end there were many government 's remove by communism.

Karl Marx and the Idustrial Revolution

Karl Marx was a german man who didn't like the Industrial Revolution. he was born on May 5, 1818 and died in March 14, 1883 at the age of 64.He is naturally a jew, but his family converted into christianity because they couldn't get a job. Though he converted into a Christian, he still did not belive in god. He thought that treatment of the workers in the factories were unfair. He believe that the workers should be in charge of the factories instead of the landlords. This idea is known as Communism. His idea lead to the Bolshevik Revolution. The industrial revolution inspired him to make communism because he thought that the people who were in the middle class were going to continue to work for the same amount of money.

Nationalism and the Creation of Italy

Nationalism is the belief that their loyalty should not be to a king. People have their loyalty to the same culture and history. Nationalism grew out of the French Revolution, when France got its independence. people became nationalistic, meaning they're proud of their country. There certain holidays that express nationalism like 4th of July for the United States of America, 5th of May for Mexico and plenty more. In these days we can find the location of a country in a map. In the year of 1871, two untied nations were created. These two nations were, the German empire and the kingdom of Italy. Before Italy became Italy, Germany and Italy use to be one nation. Italy was seperated into states and towns, these states and towns use to be ruled by different kings. The people of Italy still spoke the same language and had the culture as before. today the capital of Italy is Rome. The reason why Italy was seperated was because their population was increasing and it could no longer be ruled by foreign people.

Simon Bolivar

Simon Jose Antonio de la Santisima Trinidad Bolivar, known as Simon Bolivar the liberator of South America, was born in July 24, 1783. His parents died when he was in the age of 9. He was raised by his uncle.He went to Europe where he witnessed the coronation of napoleon and gradually became drawn to the idea of revolution. He began to liberate the south American countries in 1800's. The countries he leberated were Bolivia, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela. This the reason why he's very famous, if it wasn't for him liberating these countries he wouldn't be famous. He was president of Peru in 1825. The country of Bolivia was named after because the country wanted to honor him for liberating their country. All of the South American countries were liberated by him except Brazil, from the Spaniards.In 1819 he defeated the Spanish and established the republic of Greater Colombia. The Republic of Greater Colombia included the present day countries Venezuela, Colombia, Panama and Ecuador.

Reign of Terror

The Reign of Terror was cuase during the French Revolution. people were filled with fear because there were executions presumed by enemies of the state. It began 15 months after the French Revolution. 16,000 to 40,000 people were killed during the Reign of Terror. The French government was threatned by nternal enemies, conspirators, and foreign monarchies. Max Robespierre was a French Man who centralized denunciations, trials, and executions part of the Committee of Public Safety. The Committee of Public Safety formed the French government. the committee was responsible the all the executions. The reign of terror started because there were rivalries between political factions and because of the mass executions. Most executions were decapitating people with a device called the Guillotine. The guillotine is a tall upright frame with a large blade on the top. The blade was droped into peoples head which were cut off. the reign of Terror were mostly b y all executions with the Guillotine.

The French Revolution

1. a. The French people were critical of their nobility because the nobles were treated diffently than others. Everybody had diferent kind of respect. All nobles had authority over the peasants and therefore peasants had to do all the hard for them. They didnt have to join the military. the nobles had the luxurious life in chateaux.

b. The officials an d the ministers ruled evrything. They rule all of France and the parliament.

c. The clergy is the first estate. They are alike to the nobles. Both had the same type of power. They dont need to pay taxes. The only difference is that they belong to the church.

2. A French peasant would have to grumble about having less land. Having less money. Having to pay taxes and paying for food.

3. The pictures shows a peasent carrying a federal lord plus the Clergy. This means that the peasant has to do everything the clergy and federal lord says.

4. The woman would be complaining about the male not having enough stuff. they would have enough food, land,or money. They couldnt have enough money because they had to pay taxes to the federal lord and clergy. So pretty musch their life's were really bad.

5. Yes, because they were treated like worthless peple. The clergy and the nobles had the better lives. They didnt have to do as much work as the peasants. The peasants didnt get there income taxes. The peasants resented against the richer.

6. The peasants would be most influenced by the Rousseau. They would more influence because the peasants would like to have their own freedom. They would like to make their own laws and not be ruled by others. Peasants would agree to this democratic system.

7. I think that the pamphet was banned because the higher class people wouldnt like to let the peasants have more freedom. The clergy and the nobles would banned this pamphet because they wouldnt have to live a hard life the peasants. They want to be in charge of other people so they could live a better life. This is why the Pamphet was banned.

The rights that Thomas Jefferson talks about are having life's , their liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. People may have their kind of life nobody can tell them what to do with their life's or how they should their life's. People are also allowed to pursuit their happiness. According to the Declaration of Independence the Government gets their power from the people who give them permision to run the country. If trhe people don't like the type of Government they have, they can abolish it and choose another one. When people establish the new Government they are to make sure nthat it effects their happiness and their safety. People are allowed to change the Government if the Government is not doing the right thing. People are to choose the right person to run the country and make sure that he or she can do good things to help the country.

The two theories of the solar system are Heliocentrism and Geocentrism. Heliocentrism is the belief that the Sun is in the center of the solar system. Geocentrism is the belief that the Earth is in the center of the solar system. The heliocentric system was presented by a polish mathematicianand the astronomer Copernicus. The Heliocentric system is the motion of the Earth around the stationary Sun and the Geocentric system is the motion of the Sun around the stationary earth. The Geocentric theory same first. The Heliocentric theory came during the Scientific revolution. Galileo's trial and sentence to house arrest. The Catholic church put Galileo on trial because he believed in science and not religion. He believe in Copernican Planetary system. The Catholic church believe in creation. they believe that god created everything. once he was freed the Italian Rennaisance ended.

The scientific revolution was a new way of thinking .Scholars from the 1400's got their ideas of science from the Greeks and Romans. Aristotlewas very famous scientist. He made many theories about science. Aristotle was proven wrong many times. Once he was proven wrong scholars began to experiment more and the Scientific Revolution began. They proved that a heavy object lands at the same time as a lighter object. The scholars proved that the earth wasn't the center of the universe. Scholars used the scientific method. the scientific method is when a scientist experiments something many times to prove or disprove of the experiment. this how scientist proved everything.

Evolution Vs. Creation

Evolution

Darwin's Theory of Evolution states that all organism's came from one common ancestor.
Evolution ocurrs when genetic mutations. The genetic mutations get passed on the next
generation. The genetic mutations help the organism adapt to the enviroment. Evoloution alows them to have advantages and disadvantages of surviving. Evolution ocurrs in a slow process of time. Evolution is a scientific of sayon that all organisms were not created, they evolve by theirselves.

Creation

Creationism is a religious belief. Humans belief that that the Judaism, Christianity, and Islam gods created the Earth and the Universe. The term of Creationism is used to reject the belief of Evolution. Creationism was a big subject in the early 1900's. Several States of the United States made laws against the theory of Evolution. public schools were not to teach about evolution. In 1960 Creationism was renewed as creation science.

Evolution is a reasonable way of showing that organisms were adapted to the enviroment and how they phisically look like in the present. I believe that all organisms were genetically mutated because of the enviroment's changes during the years. Evolution explains more about how things change during a period of time. It proves how the genes adapt to changes in the enviroment. In creationism , there's no prove of changes during time or how earth and organisms were created.
